T H Barnes & Co Ltd was established in 1946 and still provides a wide range of building and related services to Marlborough. Their main emphasis continues to be commercial construction (bridges, factories, offices, schools and so on), although in recent years a number of high cost residences have also been completed. The company also provides high quality joinery products, kitchens, cabinetry, staircases, and aluminium joinery under the NuLook franchise.

You'll recognize many of their recent projects: Marlborough District Council's Resource Recovery Centre, The Giesen Sports Centre at Renwick, the new Springlands Retirement Village, the Bluebridge Ferry Terminal, and the Aviation Heritage Centre at Omaka.

Many of the town's more significant buildings were also built by the company over the years, including the Marlborough District Council's "Beehive" offices, the NZ Post Building, Cavalier House, and Port Marlborough offices in Picton. T H Barnes & Co Ltd have also been heavily involved in the wine and mussel industries, not only building a significant number of these industrial premises, but establishing Marlborough's impressive Provincial Coldstores in 1990 and still retaining part ownership today.

Like any company, T H Barnes & Co Ltd relies on the strength and the talent of its management and construction staff. It currently employs around 35 staff members, many of whom boast a long and successful career in the construction business.

Over the years TH Barnes has watched the construction industry's peaks and troughs dictated by a local economy based heavily around primary production such as farming, dairying, mussels and wine. Prospects for the wine and mussel industries continue to look bright and construction activity in the Marlborough area has increased progressively since 1999. Yet despite this, the construction business remains highly competitive and the TH Barnes team continues to strive for perfection in every project they undertake: from high end workmanship values to completing each project on time and within budget.
